Local Nonprofits Work Together to Make a Difference
October 13, 2026

One pregnant refugee + two nonprofits = wraparound support that changes the lives of a mother and baby forever.
That’s what happened when a team from Ascension St. Vincent's Foundation’s Mobile Health Outreach Ministry encountered Alisa* at a recent Catholic Charities Jacksonville’s food pantry distribution where we staff a monthly informational outreach table.
We partner with Catholic Charities Jacksonville to amplify the positive impact it makes with food insecurity because we’ve found that many people who receive assistance through the food pantry also need additional wraparound services.
That’s where our team met Alisha*, an uninsured refugee who was 14 weeks pregnant and had no access to prenatal care. Using a language translation service, ministry team members were able to communicate with her in her native Pashto language.
Change happens when you meet people where they are.
After assessing her condition, they found that her blood pressure and blood sugar were dangerously low. They immediately connected Alisha with one of our maternal health patient navigators, who is helping coordinate prenatal care, access to nutritious food, baby supplies and other essential support services for her throughout her pregnancy.
This is just one example of Ascension St. Vincent's Mission in action. We partner with other change-makers. We find ways to communicate. We find solutions.
Soon enough, helping one person at a time becomes healing a community.
Becoming a part of this lifechanging outreach is as easy as donating in whatever amount is comfortable. Every gift helps someone who otherwise would not have support, please consider donating today.
