Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation Welcomes Three New Members to Board of Directors

Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation is thrilled to appoint three outstanding individuals – Dr. Audrieanna Burgin, Carter Byrd Bryan, and Martha Barrett – to its Board of Directors.
Each new member brings a wide breadth of experience and a shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community. Their diverse backgrounds, from entrepreneurship and education to civic leadership, will be invaluable assets as we work to further expand affordable healthcare to uninsured patients.

Dr. Audrieanna Burgin
Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation is honored to appoint Dr. Audrieanna Burgin to its board of directors. Dr. Burgin serves as senior research scientist at WGU Labs, where she leads equity audits and economic research. As founding director of UNF’s Diversity in Business program, she expanded access to mentorship and career pathways for underrepresented students. Throughout her career, Dr. Burgin has secured more than $10 million in grants and endowments for higher education and nonprofits. She’s since been named a 2024 “Top 40 Under 40” honoree by the Jacksonville Business Journal and appointed to Mayor Donna Deegan's African American Advisory Board. Known for her dynamic teaching, Dr. Burgin is passionate about cultivating understanding and driving meaningful change in the communities she serves.
Carter Byrd Bryan
Carter Byrd Bryan is the co-founder of Med Mal Direct Insurance Company, the nation’s largest direct write medical malpractice insurance company. Carter is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Carter has served on a wide variety of boards, including the United Way, Episcopal Child Day Care Center, Pace, Child Guidance Clinic, and the Jacksonville Commodores League among others. He’s a lifetime board member for the American Cancer Society and is currently a board member of Wolfson Children’s Hospital and serves as co-chair at the St Vincent’s Hospital De Paul Society.
Martha Barrett
Martha Barrett is former senior vice president, Jacksonville market executive, for Bank of America. She worked as communications director for Mayor Jake Godbold for more than eight years and served 11 years on the Duval County School Board. She also served in the Jimmy Carter administration and as an aide to Florida Sen. Richard Stone. Martha has received the Tillie Fowler Community Service award from the Junior League, a Tribute in Leadership from Community Connections, the Silver Medallion award from OneJax, the Woman of Distinction award from the Gateway Girl Scouts Council and was an EVE award finalist in the employment category. She was recognized by the Jacksonville City Council for her noteworthy civic leadership. Martha currently serves on the boards of the Florida State College Foundation, the Florida House in Washington, D.C. and Communities In Schools. Her sister, Mary Alice Phelan, served at St. Vincent’s for many years in community relations.

We are deeply grateful for these dedicated individuals and look forward to the guidance and impact they will bring in advancing the foundation’s mission. We are confident that their services will put healing into action across Northeast Florida.
